Catherine & Kevin’s wedding

13 February 2016
/ / /

Very organized, Catherine had bought her wedding hair accessory over one year before the big day! Herchoice fell on our Marie-Hélène birdcage veil who matched beautifully with her outfit:

Pauline and Matthew’s wedding

12 November 2015
/ / /

Pauline wanted various wedding hair accessories : a cute and small heapiece for the flower girl, headpieces for the bridesmaids that would match the wedding’s color theme, and a fascinator for herself for the reception.  The bride chose the Ireland design for her bridesmaids, a special version for the maid of honor, and a custom piece but still similar for the flower girl :

The bride decided to wear different accessories for the ceremony and reception. We worked closely to fashion a delicate, feminine and chic headpiece, custom to look like the lace details of her dress. The result was a custom-made Capelio bridal fascinator made of a lace piece on a headband with hand-placed rhinestones :

The wedding

The bride and groom decided to have a Doctor Who-themed wedding, with royal blue as its main theme color. As well as incorporate elements from their favorite TV show, this adorable couple included various elements from the bride’s culture, as her family is from the Philipines.

Pauline and Matthew exchanged vows in front of their families and friends at St. Basil’s Catholic Parish, at the University of St. Michael’s College, in dowtown Toronto. The reception took place at the Old Mill Inn, also in Toronto. Many guests had come from other cities in Ontario and Quebec to be part of their special moment!

Aren’t the ladies of the bridal party gorgeous all wearing their headpieces!

Of course, as it was a Doctor Who-themed wedding, there was a T.A.R.D.I.S.!

Following an ancient tradition from the culture of the bride, the newlyweds entered the room under swords :

Another tradition was to include little charms with ribbons in the cake. The single ladies of the evening could all each pull a charm from the cake, and the one who had  the ring charm is supposed to get married within a year!

Estelle & Charles Anthony’s wedding

17 May 2015
/ / /
I wrote not so long ago about the advantages of a winter wedding, and Estelle, one of Capelio brides, understood it and decided to follow this new trend!

The bride

Estelle is a very talented artist, author of the comic book “It’s not easy being a girl.” She has worked in the video game industry when her partner, Charles-Anthony, suggested she opened Facebook & Instagram pages with her drawings. He was onto something, since her Facebook page alone is now followed by more than 16 000 people who appreciate her talent and sense of humor! Because after all, behind headstrong women there is often a loving, supportive man!

Estelle is also a true fashionista – she regularly publishes photos of new shoes among her drawings! When it came to her wedding, the stylish woman wasn’t sure about her wedding hair accessory, but seeing the tears coming in the eyes of her mother when the bride-to-be tried on her wedding dress with a headdress, the decision seemed a no-brainer.

The fashion-loving bride loved our Catherine fascinator, but she also wanted a unique design, with a jewel piece. So we adapted the original headpiece to fit perfectly Estelle’s tastes and desires! Obviously, being an artist, she drew her wedding gown and overall outfit for the big day so that I would have an idea of it, as well as her hairstyle and how she would place her wedding hair accessory:

I must admit that my sketches, wether it’s for the regular collection of wedding hair accessories for the bride or when it’s for custom headpieces, aren’t as beautiful, unfortunately!

Here’s the inspiration for Estelle’s wedding hair accessory and final result :

The wedding

The wedding took place at the Manoir Montmorency in Quebec City, in the month of February. The wedding theme was red, which showed in the decoration, the bridesmaids’ dresses and… even the color of the bride’s hair!

Kim & Pascal’s wedding

5 April 2015
/ / /

Kim had a very clear idea of what kind of wedding headpiece she wanted: she sent me a picture of a fascinator found on Pinterest, with birdcage veil covering one eye attached to a flower headdress. As Kim is based Montreal, we made her bridal Capelio fascinator in a long-distance process. We used excess lace that remained after the alterations done to her wedding dress and added a flower with two feathers.

Here is the result:

The love story and the proposal

Kim and Pascal met at a gathering with common friends. It was love at first sight for Kim but she was so shy that she didn’t have the courage to talk to him…  regardless, the groom found her very pretty, if somewhat cold to ignore him. They still had the opportunity to discuss later in the evening, and thus their relationship began!

Pascal proposed to Kim after more than three years together. He asked the big question on a beach on the island of Capri, during a trip to Italy. Despite the romantic setting, Kim was very surprised, although her parents were already aware of Pascal’s intentions since the future groom had asked their permission before the trip.

The bride and groom were very lucky as they had a wonderful weather during their ceremony – and it really was a chance, since the two weddings on the same day that took place in the same location unfortunately had rain! In fact, the rain progressively stopped while Kim was walking down the aisle, and as the couple exchanged the rings the clouds dispersed, giving way to a beautiful sun!

Even though the weather was on their side, luck could not prevent a little problem with the wedding dress that happened just before the ceremony: part of the fabric on the front of the dress broke, and nobody had any thread or needle to repair it! However, Kim saw this as a sign of good luck, since the same thing had happened to her mother during her own wedding! Since Kim’s parents have been married for 25 years now, it bodes very well indeed!

Janie & Maxime’s Wedding

24 January 2015
/ / /

Several Capelios from the 2015 collection For the Bride are inspired by custom made accessories previously designed for real brides. This is the case of the ”Janie” : I worked with Janie on a custom piece, even at long-distance, to create an accessory corresponding exactly to the vision she had in mind to complete her wedding look. But I loved too the result so much that I decided to adapt it and include it in Capelio’s  2015 collection For the Bride!

As Ian and Esmeralda, Janie and Maxime were high school sweethearts. Having a lot of mutual friends, the couple began to spend more and more time together while their feelings grew deeper. Upon Maxime’s return after a month-long trip to Ireland, their relationship became serious. And a year later, right after a romantic getaway in New Hampshire, Maxime proposed  on the edge of the sea, in front of a beautiful sunset!

Three years later, they were husband and wife! Janie says, ‘I am the happiest woman on Earth because I have married the man of my dreams and my best friend!’

The ceremony

The ceremony and reception took place at the Vieux Foyer inn, in Val David. In fact, part of the day was supposed to take place outside, as there was a small island with a beautiful bridge. Unfortunately, as it was raining cats and dogs on the Big Day, the whole wedding was held into the reception hall itself.

Esmeralda & Ian’s wedding

31 August 2014
/ / /

You may remember I mentioned months ago a bride who had forgotten her headpiece in Miami when she came to Quebec City for her wedding. It could have been a disaster, but her wedding planner, Isabelle Radford, saved the day by calling, well, me. Even if it was only two days before the Big Day, I was able to provide a custom-made fascinator with birdcage veil for the bride.

But that’s only one, small part of the story. Esmeralda, the bride, was kind enough to share pictures with me and talked to me about her love story and how she came to get married in my beautiful hometown, and with her permission, I’m sharing this with you!

Here is Esmeralda on her wedding day with her Capelio :

The bride who forgot her fascinator in Miami

24 May 2014
/ / /

This is the story of a bride from the US named Esmeralda, who decided to get married in the beautiful city of Quebec with few relatives by her side. Unfortunately, in her excitement, she forgot her bridal fascinator at her home in Miami. Panic followed.

… Or rather it would have been the case if it wasn’t for the wedding planner Isabelle Radford, specialist in elopments, who contacted me two days before the ceremony to create a special headpiece for Esmeralda so the story has its happy ending. The good news is that with all the materials at hand, it was possible to make a custom Capelio (silver linings!). Here is the final result:

While orders from 2014 brides keep coming, I need to remind you all that it is important to place your order for your headdress or veil as soon as possible. Indeed, we need to calculate time for the delivery (which is usually only few days when we ship in Canada), the creation time, but also the time to receive the materials from England and the United States. Most Capelio accessories are made-to-order, but we must have some designs on hand.

If in doubt, or if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. You can still order without any problem your headpiece, fascinator or veil for a wedding in July or August. Happy shopping !

See pictures of the wedding here.
