Anna and Howard’s wedding

21 August 2016
/ / /

Meet your future husband in the Cayman Islands during a short trip: sounds like the script of a Hollywood movie, right? And yet that’s what happened to Anna, a 2016 Capelio bride!

Even crazier? Anna’s journey lasted only 24 hours! Two friends convinced her to go with them, which allowed her to meet Howard, who worked at the hotel where they were staying. Although she thought he had a je-ne-sais-quoi, she didn’t fall in love straight away. Unlike him : for Howard it was love at first sight… when he saw her remove his sunglasses! He could admire her eyes and from that moment, the die has been cast.

Thanks to Anna’s friends, the lovebirds remained in contact when the young woman left to return to Montreal after 24 hours. Quickly the young couple began to communicate every day and after one week, Howard sent plane tickets to Anna so she could join him back when she got few days off work. In fact, whenever she had three or four days off, her boyfriend would send her plane tickets to go back to see him. A few months later, the groom wrote to Anna’s father asking for her hand and two months later, they were engaged!

The proposal took place in the Cayman Islands, of course: the couple were dinig at the Dolve Vita,  an Italian restaurant on the edge of the sea. What a romantic setting!

The wedding day

The setting

The wedding took place at the sugar shack Lalande in Montreal. The bride and groom wanted something simple, intimate, with only their relatives and close friends. The couple loves nature and chose on purpose a location that made their guests discover one aspect of Quebec culture, as some were from Switzerland, France, the US and even the Congo! The bride says, “We had a beautiful wedding with our guests who were all incredibly supportive and caring with us and especially who showered us with a lot of love! For this we are extremely grateful.”

The bride getting ready

Anna had a clear idea from the start of the wedding hair accessory she wanted, a flower crown with roses : “The bespoke wreath created specifically for my wedding was above my expectations! Audrey has created exactly what I had in mind!” In fact, we like the result so much that there will be a similar flower crown with white or ivory roses available in the 2017 collection!

The ceremony

The most beautiful moments of the day for Anna? The arrival on the arm of her father when she and her future husband began to cry, chocked with emotions. When her friend Julie-Anne sang during the ceremony. When the two doves were released. And finally, when Cynthia, a friend of the bride, performed after the first dance a song she had written especially for the newlyweds. “It was very moving to receive so much love! “

Kim & Pascal’s wedding

5 April 2015
/ / /

Kim had a very clear idea of what kind of wedding headpiece she wanted: she sent me a picture of a fascinator found on Pinterest, with birdcage veil covering one eye attached to a flower headdress. As Kim is based Montreal, we made her bridal Capelio fascinator in a long-distance process. We used excess lace that remained after the alterations done to her wedding dress and added a flower with two feathers.

Here is the result:

The love story and the proposal

Kim and Pascal met at a gathering with common friends. It was love at first sight for Kim but she was so shy that she didn’t have the courage to talk to him…  regardless, the groom found her very pretty, if somewhat cold to ignore him. They still had the opportunity to discuss later in the evening, and thus their relationship began!

Pascal proposed to Kim after more than three years together. He asked the big question on a beach on the island of Capri, during a trip to Italy. Despite the romantic setting, Kim was very surprised, although her parents were already aware of Pascal’s intentions since the future groom had asked their permission before the trip.

The bride and groom were very lucky as they had a wonderful weather during their ceremony – and it really was a chance, since the two weddings on the same day that took place in the same location unfortunately had rain! In fact, the rain progressively stopped while Kim was walking down the aisle, and as the couple exchanged the rings the clouds dispersed, giving way to a beautiful sun!

Even though the weather was on their side, luck could not prevent a little problem with the wedding dress that happened just before the ceremony: part of the fabric on the front of the dress broke, and nobody had any thread or needle to repair it! However, Kim saw this as a sign of good luck, since the same thing had happened to her mother during her own wedding! Since Kim’s parents have been married for 25 years now, it bodes very well indeed!

The Phantom of the Opera/OSM+ Evening

24 November 2014

Here’s an overview of the OSM+ event Capelio participated in, accessorizing the hostess!

The OSM+ evening took place in three stages last 31 of October. The guests were first greeted during a welcome cocktail sponsored by Botanist Gin Cointreau. Cocktails were created especially for the evening by one of the best mixologists in Montreal. During the cocktail, guests were able to admire three painters at work. Afterwards, the guests attended the concert “The Phantom of the Opera”, where the 1925 film was playing while organist William O’Meara improvised a soundtrack on the great organ Pierre-Béique recently acquired for the OSM. After the concert, the party continued into the wee hours of the morning with an open bar, appetizers, DJ, dance floor topped with a giant phantom of the opera mask, a photo booth, a lounge area and a silent auction. Every effort was made to ensure the evening would be memorable!

The highlights? The concert, which gave for many guests the opportunity to hear the organ of the OSM for the first time. Also, later in the evening, professional dancers landed to surprise guests by running a brilliant ‘’halloween-y’’ number who created a wonderful effect of surprise and mystery.

This event helped to raise funds for the activities of the educational mission of the OSM and gives an opportunity for young people to discover the symphonic repertoire. OSM + evening also provides an additional opportunity for young professionals to discover their orchestra enjoying one of the best reputations in the world. ‘’We sincerely hope that activities such as evening OSM + will help to bring about a new generation of patrons in Montreal’’, said Isabelle Nadeau, member of the organizing committee.

Custom made wedding hair accessories and long distance

10 August 2014
/ / /
I had the opportunity at the beginning of the month of July to crate Janie’s accessory for her wedding, a silk flower with a polka-dot veil. I liked it so much that it will be featured in Capelio’s 2015 collection for the bride!

Here’s Janie’s headpiece :

Of course it’s not new that custom-made headpieces are adapted to be included in the “regular” accessories offered by Capelio. But there’s actually something special about this order : although it was a custom-made bridal fascinator, the whole process was made at long distance!

Often clients think a custom-made headdress will require several meetings in person. It is sometimes necessary, of course, but in this case the bride lived in Montreal and couldn’t come to Quebec City, so the initial discussions about Janie’s tastes and expectations were conducted by telephone and emails. She then received pictures of every step of the creation process.

Sounds laborious? Not really. It would be very much a hassle for me and for the client that both of us be present throughout the process of creating a custom hair accessory. Therefore, after the first initial meeting, follow-ups are usually done by emails with photos. This is the case of a bride whose accessory I’ve just finished. After she initiallycontacted me by email, it was impossible to meet – brides are known to be very busy, after all! But in order not to lose time (the wedding is in October) I sent her few sketches as suggestions for her headpiece, and once she chose a specific design, I got to work.

Chapeau Mont Royal hat luncheon 2014

14 June 2014
/ / /

After the 25th anniversary of Mariage Québec with all the wedding industry, it’s the fashion world of Montreal who came together for a good cause.  Indeed the first edition of the Chapeau Mont Royal event was held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Chalet du Mont-Royal with Mitsou Gélinas as the maître de cérémonie. The gourmet breakfast benefit was inspired by the famous Hat Luncheon held in New York by the women’s committee dedicated to the conservation of Central Park, a prestigious and popular event. The Quebec version aimed to raise funds for the preservation of Mount Royal.

More than 500 guests gathered for the occasion, proudly wearing hats, fascinators and headpieces. The team of the magazine Elle Quebec was there, and can you guess what the representatives of one of the most famous fashion magazines in the country were wearing? Fascinators signed Capelio, of course!

Indeed, Sandra and Nathalie, respectively brands director and communications director for the magazine, were elegantly wearing custom Capelio creations signed. I was honored to see my headdressess worn by such strong-headed and stunning women! And from the admiring reactions these two ladies got, especially with the black fascinator, you can bet they will soon be available in Capelio’s online store

A very nice event, a great cause, and a beautiful moment for all those who were lucky enough to attend. The pretty hats and fascinators worn by the guests inspire me for new creations, and I am already looking forward to next year’s edition!
