The Crazy Tea Party

28 May 2016
/ / /

It is with great pleasure that Capelio took part in the Crazy Tea Party, an evening fundraiingr for the Foundation of Mental Health University Institute in Quebec on May 26.

The event was organized by the company La Folle Tablée, specialized in dessert tables & creations, to celebrate its first anniversary by giving back to the community. The evening was gathered a multitude of artisans from different backgrounds to create a beautiful event around the theme of Alice in Wonderland. The guests gathered from 18h at the Morrin Centre, in Quebec City, to enjoy a delicious menu: appetizers, cocktails, candy bar, tea bar and, of course, cupcakes and other sweets crafted by La Folle Tablée!

And that’s not all: the guests also enjoyed various performances. Indeed, a magician walked among the guests to entertain them, there was a photobooth on site to the delight of all and there was even an opera singer performing as the Red Queen with a Mad Hatter and an Alice in Wonderland!

Capelio was on hand to accessorize the hostesses of the evening and help create the magical atmosphere that made this occasion a truly exceptional event. Obviously, it’s always interesting to participate in this kind of colorful evening, but in this case it was also an honor to work toward such a good cause. Indeed, all profits Crazy Tea Party will benefit the Foundation University Institute in mental health.

Here are some pictures of the evening (more will be added later on) :

Sad to have missed this wonderful evening? Good news, it is possible that the Tea Party Crazy will become an annual event! Make sure you do not miss anything by subscribing to our monthly newsletter:

The 2016 Grand Wedding Event

29 February 2016
/ / /

On Sunday, February 28, 2016 was held the Grand Wedding Event at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. The event, now in its 3rd edition, brought together various wedding professionnals. Florists, celebrants, wedding planners and many more was on site at the mythical venue of Quebec City to meet with brides and grooms. And of course, Capelio was there!

The show

Obviously Capelio was also on hand to provide headpieces, veils and fascinator for the bridal fashion show. And the result was beautiful! Many of our headdresses from the 2016 collection were included in the looks, as well as hair accessories from our previous collections.

Capelio also created a chapel-length version of our Simplicity veil, which stylist Justin Bellavance and coordinator Valerie Larrivée embellished the morning of the event with real flowers provided by the company Fleur d’Europe. The result was stunning :

And it’s not all! Capelio also realized another custom bridal accessory for the show. Indeed, at the request of the coordinator of the event, we made a necklace :

wedding accessories bridal necklace for the bride

A veil with real flowers, a custom becklace : I hope it gives you, future brides, ideas! Maybe those accessories for the bride will be included in upcoming collections, but in the meantime, remember that if you like this kind of pieces, we can create them for you as custom accessories!

The booth

Capelio had a booth in the ballroom, where brides could see, touch and try on our wedding hair accessories. It was very nice to chat with them to know what style they were looking for, how they wanted to look for their big day, as well as their needs for the bridal party.

 Wedding Event Chateau Frontenac Kiosque

I was wearing a Butterfly Effect headpiece and many loved it, even if it wasn’t technically a bridal accessory!

The event

As expected, the 2016 edition of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac’s Grand Wedding Event was incredible and delighted  many couples who attended to be inspired and to plan their big day. Among other things, I was very happy to see Angela of Castle Coiffure, who sometimes collaborate on our blog. Her booth included a ”braid bar” to offer brides and their guests the opportunity to have their hair did. And I had the chance to get my hair did :

There was also the wedding photographer Jonathan Robert, who had made the beautiful wedding photos of Esmeralda and Ian’s wedding at the Château Frontenac. I also got to talk with Mireille À Deux Invitations: soon we will have a special service to offer brides-to-be, stay tuned ladies!

Summary of the Pink Ribbon campaign

5 November 2015
/ / /

First of all I would like to say thank you to all those who contributed to the campaign, either by purchasing a Pink Ribbon or by making a donation: your contribution was greatly appreciated! Thanks to you, we were able to reach the target of $ 500 for the Foundation of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec!

I would also like to thank Michele of the Divas and Co. Institute, as well as Angela  of Castle Coiffure, as they both took part in the campaign by making the hair accessories available to customers in their salons.

The Pink Ribbon by Capelio cost $ 30 and for every accessory sold, $ 10 was donated to the Foundation of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec. Many clients treated themselves to a Pink Ribbon and some even took the opportunity to gift one to a women they loved. In fact, few men have done the same and bought one to give to a loved one! There’s even a family doctor who purchased 20 Pink Ribbons to offer to her staff while supporting a great cause!

The inspiration behind the campaign

There is growing cynicism regarding “pink marketing” so I want to explain the reason behind the campaign – and talk about a very special woman. I have been fortunate to benefit from the advice and support of a consultant of Entrepreneurship Laval, Manon Lortie, who helped me launch Capelio in virtually every step of the way, for two years.

Sadly, Manon was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. When Chu Foundation of Québec contacted me to take part in the Quebec City in Pink campaign, I saw an opportunity to give back to a woman who has helped me, as well as hundreds of other entrepreneurs. This is someone who, by her simple actions everyday, greatly contributed to the economic success of the city, while changing the lives of many people by helping them to live their dreams and achieve their entrepreneurial goals. An incredible woman!

It is, in a way, to give back to her a little bit of the amazing support she has giving me over the years, that I wanted to participate in the campaign.

Nathalie Clark, the Pink Ribbon spokesperson

Who in the City of Quebec has not heard the name or see Nathalie Clark on TV? The presenter and journalist has been part of the media landscape in the Capitale-National for over 30 years! And when we got in touch with her to become the face (head?) of Capelio’s Pink Ribbon, Nathalie didn’t hesitate before saying yes. As she tells us it: “How not to be touched by this cause since we all know a woman who has unfortunately been hit by this cancer, still too widespread? In solidarity, I wanted to get involved in this cause to advance research and treatments. Thank you to contribute, your donation is important! “

In the press

Today on October 1st was held the press conference to launch the Quebec City in Pink campaign of Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec Foundation. The media were able to meet the women who are involved as “light bearers” for the cause, which means they pledge to raise money for the organization. Here they are :

As a lightbearer, Capelio took part in the event, represented by the beautiful Emilie, face and client of Capelio who even bought two Pink Ribbons as part of the campaign:

It was not the first time that journalists wrote or spoke about Capelio’s Pink Ribbon campaign. In fact, many newspapers and blogs have covered the campaign (click here to see the list and read the article in French). And it’s not all! On September 23, our Pink Ribbon’s spokeswoman, the columnist and presenter Nathalie Clark, took the opportunity to speak in her weather bulletin of the campaign, with a short interview :

Quebec City’s 2015 Diner en Blanc

16 August 2015
/ / /

It was the 5th edition of the Dîner en Blanc in Québec City last Thursday, August 13, and again, many people gleefully took part in the annual event, which was even sold out! The Dîner en Blanc is obviously a great opportunity to wear a Capelio headpiecec in addition to wear again your wedding dress or a nice simple white outfit!

Like other years, the exact location of the Dîner was kept secret until the last moment. The 2015 edition of the event finally took place at Pier 22 of the Port of Quebec. As is tradition, after a good meal, the guests could dance for a few hours in this place magical. New this year: the Diner continued later in the evening at the Cosmos on Laurier, where guests were invited for additional celebration starting at 23:30.

Here are several photos of the lovely Betty bearing his Orchid Capelio:

Wedding Salon at the Manoir du Lac Delage

22 March 2015
/ / /

Last Saturday, March 21, took place what will probably be the last bridal salon before the start of the 2015 wedding season: The Wedding Salon at the Manoir du Lac Delage, near Québec City.

The Manoir du Lac Delage being a popular venue for couples in the are to get married, it is only natural that the organization of the Manor would invite future brides and grooms to visit the scene to have a good idea of what their ceremony and reception would look like, at the same time as having the opportunity to discuss with wedding industry professionals. Indeed, many workers and companies of the wedding industry were on hand to present their services to the curious couples searching for suppliers that will help make their dream wedding a reality. Maybe this is a new trend, wedding venues organizing their own salon to give couples concrete ideas, such as the Chateau Frontenac and its Grand Wedding Salon?

Invitations only

In fact, this was not your typical wedding fair: The Manoir invited couples who had already booked the wedding venue for their wedding in 2015 or 2016. The couples and their guests could sample different meals to decide which menu they prefer for their reception, which wine to choose, etc. Wedding industry professionnals attending the event were also invited by the Manoir.

I was there with Martine Ricard, a wedding officiant, and Genevieve Poitras, the professional singer and pianist behind Melody Cocktail. Both are customers of Capelio and wore their fascinators with their heads high. Such beautiful, headstrong women!

Trivia: it was the first time I was back at the Manoir du Lac Delage after being there last September, to attend… a wedding I was a guest of! Le Manoir is indeed a beautiful place to get married – here are some pictures to inspire you if you were not able to join us:

The 2015 Wedding Grand Salon of the Château Frontenac

1 March 2015
/ / /

On 1st Sunday March took place the Wedding Grand Salon at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City. It was the very first edition of this fair held in the iconic place of Quebec City and many future brides of the area came to meet workers from the wedding industry. The brides-to-be were able to discuss with many professionals about their setting, wedding theme, wedding gowns and many other details in the magical setting of the Château.

I was there to give a helping hand to Martine Ricard, a wedding celebrant and one of Capelio’s headstrong women and clients. I have talked extensively with couples of their visions of the wedding ceremony and the meaning of their vows, and how Martine can help them create the emotions-filled ceremony they want. Martine was stunning wearing her Stacey.

One of my favorite moments of the Wedding Grand Salon was of course the fashion show of wedding dresses, some accessorized with Capelio fascinators. I am sure that many brides were inspired by the numberous looks presented!

Here are pictures of the day and the fashion show :

The Phantom of the Opera/OSM+ Evening

24 November 2014
/ / /
Here’s an overview of the OSM+ event Capelio participated in, accessorizing the hostess!

The OSM+ evening took place in three stages last 31 of October. The guests were first greeted during a welcome cocktail sponsored by Botanist Gin Cointreau. Cocktails were created especially for the evening by one of the best mixologists in Montreal. During the cocktail, guests were able to admire three painters at work. Afterwards, the guests attended the concert “The Phantom of the Opera”, where the 1925 film was playing while organist William O’Meara improvised a soundtrack on the great organ Pierre-Béique recently acquired for the OSM. After the concert, the party continued into the wee hours of the morning with an open bar, appetizers, DJ, dance floor topped with a giant phantom of the opera mask, a photo booth, a lounge area and a silent auction. Every effort was made to ensure the evening would be memorable!

The highlights? The concert, which gave for many guests the opportunity to hear the organ of the OSM for the first time. Also, later in the evening, professional dancers landed to surprise guests by running a brilliant ‘’halloween-y’’ number who created a wonderful effect of surprise and mystery.

This event helped to raise funds for the activities of the educational mission of the OSM and gives an opportunity for young people to discover the symphonic repertoire. OSM + evening also provides an additional opportunity for young professionals to discover their orchestra enjoying one of the best reputations in the world. ‘’We sincerely hope that activities such as evening OSM + will help to bring about a new generation of patrons in Montreal’’, said Isabelle Nadeau, member of the organizing committee.
